Education class: Wood Stripping

Hosted by OWE Preservation Committee - Location: 6 Tremain

The topic is Basic Wood Stripping, using a variety of methods. Neighborhood instructors will be on site to demonstrate their process using a heat gun, chemicals and steel wool. This class is free to neighbors who would like to improve their skills in removing paint and stain from wood doors, trim, etc. Tremain is located off Ashland Avenue between Collingwood & Bancroft. Please park in the Girl Scouts lot off Collingwood and enter thru the property gate. The event location will be across the cul-de-sac. If you are sensitive to chemical smells, please bring a mask.

Join us to discuss status of vacant houses in the neighborhood, update on Historic Commission happenings, including proposed demolition of 2220-2222 Collingwood, education classes planned for the neighborhood, and any other issues that come to mind.

Also, anyone interested in helping to save 2220 Collingwood from proposed demolition by Lucas County Land Bank, please attend the OWE Historic District Commission meeting at 5:30 pm Monday, April 9 at Collingwood Presbyterian Church. David Mann is confirmed to be there to provide an update on the promised roof repairs and terms of marketing.

Neglected Property Cleanup - Preservation Committee

Old West End Preservation Neglected Property Cleanup September 16th 8 am to noon @ 2357 collingwood blvd. "Laskey house". Our goal is to clean up the yard around the house to maintain the line of site, to keep would be scrappers/ thieves away from breaking in. volunteers needed, gloves and coffee will be provided.

Please plan to arrive early as we will be given a tour of resources available for preservation of our historic properties. We will also discuss the possibility of saving a home on Tennyson Place in cooperation with Lucas County LandBank.
