REYNOLDS/SECOR HOUSE-MANSION VIEW 2035 COLLINGWOOD AVE.
Edward O. Fallis designed this magnificent 8500 sq foot home for Charles Reynolds in 1887. Mr. Reynolds was a prominent banker and grain merchant in Toledo. Ownership passed to Leroy M. Ludwig, then to Jay K. Secor in 1904.
Terra cotta ridge caps, corked bricj, feathered slate, and a gargoyle on the roof grace this beautiful home. On-site workman spent two years fashioning the spectacular estate, and thanks to irregular and unsuspected architectural geometries, every space is a whimsical delight.
Enter through the leaded glass doors to the Itailian Marble entryway which opens to an ornately carved hallway. The towering ceilings are quarter-sawn red oak and are reminicent of a European castle. The drawing room, originally a library and formal parlor, was remodeled in 1905 in the MacIntosh Arts and Crafts style with 13 foot ceilings and exposed walnut beams. The grand dining room amazes visitors with its Honduran mahogany carved ceilings and wall paneling. The intricate stained glass windows in this room depict an outdoor scene highlighting the 15 foot long buffet.
Thw mansion has 3 floors, 18rooms, 6 1/2 baths, 6 fireplaces, and over 75 windows in addition to its 3500 carriage house. It holds several awards for its historical value and quality of preservation. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes with the U.S. Department of the interior.
