This Colonial Revival House was completed in 1898 by Detroit architects, Rogers and MacFarland for Judge Julian H. Tyler, a noted lawyer, later a judge and his wife Tillie L. He was partner in the firm of Swayne, Hayes and Tyler Law firm. This 4,800 square foot house shows an increasing tendency toward more historical correctness in style. At the time, architects were moving toward closer reproductions of the Colonial Style. The double columns of the house, the second story balcony, and the elliptical fanlight over the door are probably copied from an 1805 house in Roxbury, Massachusetts which was measured and drawn in 1892. The widows walk and portico with free standing columns are Georgian Revival Features.
